Our story
We are Agnès Lacourse and Johanne Loiseau. We retired the same year, six months apart, and found ourselves holding the one thing we had gone without for forty years: mornings.
That first winter we walked for the sake of walking. November shores are empty and the sea gives back everything it kept all summer: bottle bottoms, red sandstone pebbles, shells worn down to nacre. We started sorting our finds into jars, by colour, for lack of anything better to do.
The jars became the raw material. We now set each stone as found, uncut and unpolished: the sea's work is better than ours. What we add is the metal — sterling silver, brass, gold fill — hammered and cold-set in Johanne's workshop, five minutes from the shore where the piece was picked up.
We make about two hundred pieces a year. That is few, and it is deliberate: we never gather more than one tide gives us. Nobody is waiting on us, and that is precisely why we do it.
